Last updated: July 13, 2026
This privacy policy explains how Fink Translate, Inh. Leonard Püttmann ("Fink", "we", "us") processes personal data when you visit fink-translate.com or use the Fink app. A German version of this policy is available at /de/privacy.html.
1. Who is responsible (controller)
Fink Translate, Inh. Leonard Püttmann
Weidenstraße 6
58579 Schalksmühle, Germany
Email: hello@fink-translate.com
2. Summary
We collect only what we need to run Fink: your account details, the texts you submit for translation, subscription information, and basic server logs. Your data is stored on servers in the EU. We use no cookies, no advertising, and no tracking, and we never sell your data. The details follow below.
3. What data we process
- Account data. Your email address and password when you create an account. Authentication is handled by our database provider Supabase; passwords are stored only in securely hashed form.
- Texts you submit. The source texts, translations, and instructions you enter are processed to provide the translation service (see section 8 on AI processing).
- Subscription data. Your plan, subscription status, and billing email. Payment details such as card numbers are collected and stored exclusively by our payment provider Polar; they never reach our servers.
- Server logs. When you access the website or app, our servers record technical data such as your IP address, browser and device type, and the time and pages of your request. We need this to deliver the service, keep it secure, and diagnose problems.
- Support communication. If you email us, we process your address and the content of your message to answer you.
- Local storage. Your language preference, your currency preference for the pricing page, and whether you dismissed our info notice are stored in your browser's local storage. This data stays on your device and is not transmitted to us.
We do not collect personal data from third parties and we do not build advertising or behavioral profiles.
4. Cookies and tracking
We use no cookies and no tracking or analytics tools. The only thing the website stores in your browser is your language preference, your currency preference for the pricing page, and the dismissal of our one-time info notice, all in local storage. This storage is strictly necessary for the service you requested (§ 25 (2) TDDDG), which is why we do not need to show a consent banner.
5. Why we process data (legal bases)
- To provide the service (account management, producing translations, managing your subscription, support): Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR, performance of a contract.
- To keep the service secure and working (server logs, abuse prevention, error diagnosis): Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR, our legitimate interest in a secure and reliable service.
- To comply with legal obligations (e.g. commercial and tax retention duties): Art. 6 (1) (c) GDPR.
- With your consent, for anything that requires it: Art. 6 (1) (a) GDPR. You can withdraw consent at any time with effect for the future.
6. Who receives your data
We share personal data only with the service providers we need to run Fink. Each of them processes data on our behalf under a data processing agreement:
- Supabase (database and authentication). Your account data and stored texts are hosted in the EU (Stockholm, Sweden). Supabase Pte. Ltd. is headquartered in Singapore. Supabase privacy policy
- Mistral AI (Paris, France). Processes the texts you submit in order to generate translations, see section 8. Mistral AI privacy policy
- Polar Software Inc. (payment processing as merchant of record; a US company with operations in Stockholm). Handles checkout, payment data, invoices, and VAT for subscriptions. Polar privacy policy
- Hetzner (website and application hosting, data centers in Helsinki, Finland). Hosts the website and the Fink application and processes the data described in section 3 as needed to run the service. Hetzner privacy policy
We never sell personal data and we do not share it for advertising. Beyond the providers above, we disclose personal data only where we are legally required to do so.
7. International transfers
Your data is stored and processed on servers in the EU. Where a provider's corporate seat is outside the EU (Supabase in Singapore, Polar in the United States), our agreements with them incorporate the EU standard contractual clauses and equivalent safeguards required by the GDPR.
8. AI processing
Fink generates and refines translations using AI models operated by Mistral AI (France). The texts you submit and the resulting output are transmitted to Mistral for this purpose. The full path of your texts: they are processed on our application servers (Hetzner, Helsinki), stored in our database (Supabase, Stockholm), and sent to Mistral AI (France) to generate the translation. Under our agreement with Mistral, this data is not used to train their models and is retained by Mistral for at most 30 days for abuse monitoring, after which it is deleted.
Please do not include sensitive personal data about other people in the texts you submit unless you have the right to do so.
9. How long we keep data
- Account data and stored texts: for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account, this data is deleted.
- Server logs: deleted automatically after a short period, typically within a few weeks.
- Billing records: retained by Polar as merchant of record in accordance with statutory commercial and tax retention periods.
- Support emails: kept as long as needed to handle your request and any follow-ups.
10. Security
All connections to the website and app are encrypted (TLS). Access to personal data is restricted to what is necessary to operate the service, and our infrastructure providers maintain certified security programs. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data.
11. Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to:
- access the personal data we hold about you (Art. 15),
- have inaccurate data corrected (Art. 16),
- have your data deleted (Art. 17),
- restrict processing (Art. 18),
- receive your data in a portable format (Art. 20),
- object to processing based on legitimate interest (Art. 21), and
- withdraw any consent you have given, at any time.
To exercise any of these rights, email us at hello@fink-translate.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. The authority responsible for us is the Landesbeauftragte für Datenschutz und Informationsfreiheit Nordrhein-Westfalen (LDI NRW); you may also contact the authority of your own place of residence.
12. Children
Fink is intended for users who are at least 18 years old. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has created an account, please contact us and we will delete it.
13. Changes to this policy
We will update this policy when our data practices or legal requirements change. The date at the top shows the current version. For significant changes we will inform you in the app or by email.
